Air Conditioning Efficiency & Comfort Checklist

Are you using your air conditioner as efficiently as possible? Are you as comfortable as possible?

If you don’t know the answer to at least one of these questions (preferably both) then the answer is probably “no.” The thing is, most homeowners don’t know how to use their air conditioner most efficiently. That is, unless you had your air conditioner professionally installed by our team, and invest in routine professional maintenance, too (more on that below!)

The good news is, you don’t have to spend a lot of money to improve efficiency and comfort. In fact, the majority of the checklist we’re about to share requires nothing monetary on your end at all! Just a few minutes of your time. Read on!

Replace Your Air Filter

The air filter that comes standard with your HVAC system is in place to protect that system from dirt, dust, and other debris that can get inside and damage the components. When the air filter gets too clogged up, however, it restricts the airflow going into the air conditioner, and therefore restricts the airflow coming out, too.

This means your AC system has to run longer to try to achieve your desired temperature, draining more energy and leaving you uncomfortable in the meantime.

Invest in an Air Purifier

There are a number of indoor air quality products that can help with not only AC efficiency but also your comfort. A whole-home dehumidifier , for example, reduces the moisture level in your home to make the air more breathable and healthy.

There’s also the air purifier. There are different types of air purifiers we have available, from electronic systems that pull contaminants and allergens out of the air, to the UV air purifier, that attacks microorganisms at the source–inside your ductwork.

Turn Off Lights and Close Your Curtains During the Day

Many of the lights in your home might produce more heat than you realize. Also if you leave your curtains and blinds open, especially on south-facing windows, you’re inviting heat inside this way too.

Turn off the lights and close your curtains during the hottest time of the day, and you won’t have to worry about this extra heat. Not only will your air conditioner not have to run as long during the day, but your home will stay cooler, longer (and therefore more comfortable).

Unblock Your Vents

Any time airflow is restricted, your air conditioner has to “work harder” to get its job done. That is, it has to run longer in order to try to achieve the desired temperature you set on your thermostat. As a result, it uses up way more energy than you should have to.

Unblocking your vents, and making sure that your outside unit is unobstructed, is key to improving airflow.

Schedule Professional AC Maintenance

Professional air conditioning maintenance allows our technicians to thoroughly inspect, clean, and adjust the components of your air conditioner that need it. This helps your air conditioner work as efficiently as possible, and as powerfully as possible.
